Project 3: Precedents

Ibere Camargo Museum by Alvaro Siza

Natural lighting combined with artifical lighting

Atrium draws in natural lights and encourages circulation

The Louvre extension, by Pei I.M

The louvre extension itself can be seen as a sculture with the original louvre acting as a backdrop.

Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier

The Villa savoye was studied intensively in project 1: artifice, so i tried to emulate the same kind of circulation within my gallery. The circulation within villa savoye is centered around a central ramp which is evidently similar in my project.

The Villa Savoye was designed by the architect Le Corbusier, and construction completed in 1929.
The villa is located at Poissy, France. The villa is considered to be one of the earliest representation of the International Style.

The villa is a true representation of Le Corbusier's vision of the 'five points of architecture', and the aesthetics within reinforced concrete construction.

Five points of architecture
  1. The pilotis, or ground-level supporting columns, elevate the building from the damp earth allowing the garden to flow beneath.
  2. A flat roof terrace reclaims the area of the building site for domestic purposes, including a garden area.
  3. The free plan, made possible by the elimination of load bearing walls, consists of partitions placed where they are needed without regard for those on adjoining levels.
  4. Ribbon windows provide even illumination and ventilation.
  5. The freely-designed facade, unconstrained by load-bearing considerations, consists of a thin skin of wall and windows.

Project 3: Artwork

Geometric abstraction artist: Gary Petersen.

Gary Petersen is a contemporary artist, who holds a strong interest in the genre of geometric abstraction.
All of his works are based on the connection and contrast of geometric shapes and lines, with an abundance blend of colour.
His works are mostly paintings as well as small scale paperworks.

light is welcomed and controlled to draw in warm light that mimics that of the painting.

Light is directed from the top to the heart of the observatory, inspiring astronomers to look for answers at the glass attic
